HUNTINGTON, WV (AP) -

Marshall's football players will wear the number 75 on their helmets for the remainder of the season in memory of the victims of the 1970 team's plane crash.

Players strapped on the number 75 helmets for their Thursday night game against Tulsa. But the university announced Saturday, Nov. 16 the memorial will continue for the rest of the season.

Athletics director Mike Hamrick said the decision was based on the response of players after the Tulsa game, which the Thundering herd won 45-34 in a comeback.

Hamrick said team members asked if they could continue wearing 75 on their helmets as a tribute.

The crash occurred Nov. 14, 1970, in Huntington. The team plane was returning from a game at East Carolina. The crash killed 75 people.
