PRICHARD, WV -

Norfolk Southern has shut down its mainline track through Wayne County while repair crews work on a section that was washed out by a weekend storm.

Railroad spokesman Robin Chapman said the washout occurred about 6 miles from Kenova near the site of the Prichard intermodal facility.

"One line washed out. One line was taken out of service" while repairs are being made, Chapman said. Repair crews are using the intermodal construction site to take rock to the repair site, he said.

Norfolk Southern expects the line to be back in service on Nov. 19, Chapman said. The track is part of the Heartland Corridor intermodal route and is heavily used for coal and general merchandise shipments.
