Route 2 reopened Tuesday morning after being shut down in both directions due to an early morning fire in North Wheeling.
The fire broke out shortly before 5:30 a.m. in the 600 block of Main Street Terrace. The fire was at a home in an alley and the flames were extinguished as of 6 a.m.
According to Wheeling Fire Chief Larry Helms, two people lived in the home and managed to get out safely. Helms said the damage is mostly contained to one room on the first floor of the home.
The roadway was shut down for more than an hour while fire crews battled the blaze and cleaned up. Traffic started moving slowly in one lane through the area after 6:30 a.m.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
