In a rematch of last year's Class A State Championship Game, the No.1 Madonna Blue Dons exploded for a wild 77-50 victory over No.8 Wahama at Jimmy Carey Stadium on a cold, snowy Saturday night.
Defense was optional, as the Blue Dons avenged last year's crushing, overtime loss at the Super 6.
Blue Dons senior quarterback Ross Comis accounted for seven touchdowns, six of them coming on the ground. He also threw a 10-yard touchdown strike to senior wideout Marcello Biondillo in the first quarter. Comis rushed 26 times for 269 yards. Senior running back Elliott Nero also contributed four touchdowns and piled up 185 yards rushing.
Wahama senior Kane Roush had a game he'll never forget, in the final game of his career, scoring six touchdowns--three of which came on kickoff returns. He racked up a whopping 264 kick-return yards.
Wahama finishes the season at 10-2.
Madonna, now 12-0, will host No.4 Williamstown (10-2) next weekend in Weirton in the state semifinals.
