Many residents are finding themselves waking up to a few inches of snow in the area during the largest travel day of the year.
A winter weather advisory will remain in effect for the southern counties including Tyler until 7 PM tonight. A mix of snow and sleet have fell over the area since Tuesday causing some slick spots mainly on secondary roadways.
Highway officials have been working through the night to treat main roads in the wake of this storm. Interstates and main highways are in decent shape as of 4:30 Wednesday morning, but residents should allow about 30 minutes to defrost snow and sleet from vehicles.
Reported totals are ranging from 1.5 inches in the low areas to around 4 in the hilltops. This is not the largest storm residents have seen in past years, however, the fact there will be more people traveling by air and by road means people should use extreme caution with this event.
