No.1 Weirton Madonna (13-0) advanced to its second straight Class A state championship game with a 42-28 victory over No.4 Williamstown in the semifinals at Jimmy Carey Stadium in Weirton.
Madonna senior quarterback Ross Comis had a hand in four touchdowns. He ran 26 times for 136 yards with three touchdowns, and threw one to senior running back Elliott Nero. Nero added 100 yards on 11 carries and two scores.
Madonna led 21-14 at the half.
The momentum-changing play came in the third quarter after a Williamstown score. Following a pair of personal fouls, and kicking of from the Madonna 30-yard line, Will Bowser took the onside kick and raced 77 yards for a touchdown. Madonna took the lead 28-21, and Comis would tack on two more touchdowns to extend the lead.
Williamstown senior quarterback Jake Tracewell threw three touchdown passes in his final game in a Yellowjackets uniform. They finished the season at 10-3.
Madonna will play the winner of Saturday afternoon's Magnolia/Greenbrier West game (1:30) in the Class A state championship game next Saturday at 7 p.m. at Wheeling Island Stadium.
