U.S. Postal Service signs two year lease to keep Danese Post Office open through 2015.
An announcement was made in October that the Danese Post Office would be closing because the lease on the building was set to expire in December. On Monday, Dec. 2, U.S. Rep. Nick Rahall (D-WV) announced that a deal has been reached to keep the post office open for another two years.
"Many Danese residents have contacted me in support of their post office, and I want them to know that I have conveyed those sentiments to the Postal Service and will continue to impress on Postal officials the importance of mail delivery services to our people and communities," said Congressman Rahall.
The lease on the building, which houses the Danese Post Office, was set to expire on Dec. 2. According to a statement from the congressman's office, Rahall urged Postal officials to keep the facility open. The Postal Service renewed the facility's lease with the current landlord for two years, with the understanding that Postal officials would investigate options for a more permanent location in Danese.
"Having pressed the Postal Service to find a stopgap solution," Rahall stated, "I will continue to work for a permanent fix that fully protects the Danese Post Office."
