Posted: Updated:

West Virginia farmers and ranchers are being invited to apply for the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Natural Resources Conservation Service's Conservation Stewardship Program.

Officials say producers interested in participating in the program may submit applications to through Jan. 17.

The program helps established conservation stewards take their level of natural resource management to the next level to improve both their agricultural production and provide valuable conservation benefits.

So far the program in its fifth year has partnered with producers to enroll more than 160,000 acres across West Virginia.

It has awarded more than 750 contracts and obligated more than $6 million to support our land owners in creating sustainable resources statewide since 2009.
