Laid Off Ormet Workers Delivering Petitions to Ohio Gov. Kasich
Columbus, Ohio -
Laid off Ormet workers and their family members planned to deliver a petition with thousands of signatures to Ohio Gov. John Kasich Wednesday, Dec. 11, in hopes of saving the aluminum plant and 1,000 jobs.
The United Steelworkers arranged a meeting at 2:30 p.m. in Columbus, and they intend to invite the Kasich to attend their Christmas party as well as handing over to him the first batch of many petitions.
Since Ormet shut down, Local 5724 and other steelworkers have tried to get Kasich's attention. They've held public rallies, launched a media campaign, and through it all, they've said they hope he is listening.
