Arthur "Bud" Michael served as a Jefferson County bailiff for almost half a century, but now his health has forced him to retire. On Thursday, his legacy was honored by those close to him.
A surprise retirement party set up for Michael by long time friend and co-worker Judge Joseph Carabi, who has worked alongside Michael for 23 years. Michael said he wanted to make it up to 50 years, but due to arthritis and months and months of Judge Carabi urging him to take care of himself, Michael decided it was time to retire.
Michael started working as a bailiff when he was 31 years old. Now, he's 81, and has been a bailiff for every year there's been a county court in Jefferson County. Judge Carabi described Bud as someone who goes above and beyond what he's asked to do and is a great friend, father, and husband.
