Active Shooter Drill in Local Schools on Friday Will Include the Firing of Blanks Inside Buildings
OHIO COUNTY, W.Va. -
Active shooter situations have become all too common in schools all across the country. It's a situation that requires immediate and effective action.
On Friday, one local school district is taking steps to make sure their staff and faculty react quickly to that type of situation.
Teachers in some Ohio County Schools will participate in the "Operation Safe Schools Initiative" on Friday. Teachers will be allowed to hear realistic sounds of gun fire within their facility as several blank rounds of ammunition will be fired inside the school so that faculty members will know what live ammunition sounds like.
The goal is to provide a realistic setting that will teach educators to react to a real-life active shooter situation.
