Traffic was at a standstill on Thursday evening on Interstate 70 west near Route 9 due to an ongoing bridge project.
Drivers said traffic was backed up for hours, all the way to the Interstate 470 split.
According to the Ohio Department of Transportation, the back up was due to a lane pattern change and the closure of some lanes as crews prepared for the next phase of the project.
The project entails the rehabilitating the I-70 bridge over SR 9 at St. Clairsville, lengthening the westbound I-70 on-ramp and replacing the bridge that carries I-70 over the National Road Bikeway.
The project has been ongoing since March and is expected to wrap on August 31 of 2014.
