Demolition has begun on a slice of Steubenville history.
Extreme Excavating got to work early Friday morning after Steubenville Mayor Domenick Mucci called for an emergency demolition of the Creegan Company Building, which was destroyed by fire earlier this month. The partial demolition was called for so residents in the Washington Square Apartments next door could return home after being evacuated last week.
The Creegan Company building stood facing Washington Street in downtown
Steubenville for decades.
The building was only being used for storage at the time of the fire, and no injuries were reported.
