One local law firm has come up with a fun way to give back to the community.
Bordas & Bordas presented a check of $500 to the Marshall County Animal Rescue League on Monday. The donation was the result of an" ugly sweater competition" that was held within the firm. The top three vote-getters then put their entries on Facebook for a community vote.
The winning sweater was made by Stephanie Campbell, who is a paralegal with the firm. She then chose the Animal Rescue League to benefit from the competition. Officials at the Animal Rescue League say the money will be put to good use. Shelter representative Lauren Cook said, "It's a great help. Every donation counts, especially this time of year when we are getting so many animals in. Right now our focus is on spaying and neutering. We are using a lot of donation money for that."
Carrie Scanlon, with Bordas & Bordas, said, "They have such a tremendous following of people who support the shelter and who love animals and who recognize the good work they do. So we appreciate them getting involved and the community rallying around what we know is a really great cause."
The two other participants in the ugly sweater competition received $250 from Bordas & Bordas. They are the National Youth Advocacy Program and the Tri-state Help Center.
