A full-sized bobcat was discovered with its foot stuck in a trap by a Belmont County sheriff's deputy on Tuesday afternoon.
Deputy Bob Moore found the bobcat along Rouggen Road, which is off of Route 800 north in Belmont County. Moore soon discovered that the animal's foot had become stuck in a metal trap, and immediately attempted to contact a game warden, but found the closest one available was in Columbus.
When an agent from the Ohio Department of Natural Resources arrived from Columbus, he discovered the bobcat was not injured, loosened the trap and set the animal free. The owner of the trap remains unknown. Police say the trap was apparently set by someone who did not own the property and did not have permission to hunt there.
