It's good news for one local university after officials announce a new program to help students right here in the Ohio Valley.
West Liberty University has received a grant for $156,000, and although it's good news for the university, it's even better for the students it will benefit.
The grant is part of the Summer Undergraduate Research Experience or "S.U.R.E." The goal is to further the fields of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics, but it will also create a hands-on environment for the undergraduate students.
The grant will also be used over the next three summers and will also help the students pay for their meals, as well as room and board. The S.U.R.E. Grant will provide funding for research projects on crayfish bio-diversity and even the affects fracking has had on the local environment.
