Police in Ohio Report Death as 'Chemical Suicide'

Posted: Updated:

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio (AP) - Emergency responders in western Ohio say a man found dead in a vehicle apparently killed himself using hazardous chemicals, prompting authorities to block off the area until a dangerous gas dissipated.

The Springfield News-Sun (http://bit.ly/1ePxLtH ) reports the death of the man found Monday in a Springfield parking lot is believed to be that area's first case of what's known as "chemical suicide," in which chemicals are mixed to create a toxic cloud in a small space.

Lt. Dave Aills of the Springfield Fire Rescue Division says a note left on the vehicle warned of hydrogen sulfide, the deadly gas created in such cases. Investigators weren't allowed to access the scene until the gas cleared.

Authorities said the man was in his 30s. His name wasn't immediately released.
