Temperatures of -16 Recorded in Monroe County on Tuesday Morning, 1,500 Without Power in Brooke County

A wind chill advisory expires at 1 p.m. Tuesday for the Ohio Valley.

Temperatures at 7 a.m. on Tuesday morning had already dropped to -16 in New Philadelphia and Woodsfield.  A temperature of -9 was recorded in Wheeling.

Meanwhile, Mon Power reported that 1,500 people were without power early Tuesday morning, primarily in the Wellsburg area. Power is estimated to be restored by 9:30 a.m.

Due to the cold temperatures, the Wheeling Sanitation and Recycling Department will not operate its regular trash collection schedule on Tuesday. Trash collection for Wheeling residents will resume Wednesday and be delayed by one day for the remainder of the week.

Wheeling Island Hotel-Casino-Racetrack has also rescheduled live greyhound races because of weather concerns.

No live races will be held Tuesday and Wednesday. Live races will return on Thursday.
