Media Blood Donor Day Helps to Save Lives

Every two seconds, someone needs blood.  Accident victims, cancer patients and ordinary people in extraordinary circumstances, like Gina Walker of Ohio who needed 540 transfusions when her third child was born.

But everyday heroes come to the rescue, like Gordon Waide of Martins Ferry, who has donated blood 137 times. He had this quilt made from 20 of his Media Blood Donor Day T-shirts. He loves to see first timers come in.

Everyone is welcome, but some blood types are especially needed this winter.

Chuck Galloway of Wheeling has given 45 times, and he has this message for you.

Every unit of blood you donate helps three patients to live.
