The Wheeling Police Department released its crime statistics report for 2013 on Monday.
Compared to 2012, the police department has seen robberies down by 53 percent.
They also report burglaries were down by 18 percent.
Wheeling Police Chief Shawn Schwertfeger said he is happy with the report and believes a big reason why these offenses went down is because this was their first full-year of one-officer-per police car.
"I like to see statistics like that and we celebrate that but we cannot celebrate for too long because the season's starting over," Schwertfeger said. "Particularly in burglaries, there's been a recent up-tick in burglaries in Wheeling and so that concerns us and just because we had a good year, as far as bringing some of those numbers down, doesn't mean that the game is over. We need to continue to work hard."
Schwertfeger says this year they plan to continue to lower the stats of both A and B offenses and also focus on highway safety.
