A local painters union held a training session on corrosion protection today.
The International Union of Painters and Allied Trades gathered at its training center in Lewis County to discuss protective coatings to keep chemical tanks from corroding.
Participants learned about the different coating options that are used to keep the tanks in good conditions.
Troy Fraebel, one of the presenters at the meeting said, "The same technologies are alo used for primary containment, or lining of steel tanks, but in addition to that, there are requirements for secondary containment, which is lining the structure outside of the tank in case of a spill."
Both primary and secondary containment failed in the Elk River contamination in Charleston recently.
