ANSTED, WV -

Local poet Norman Jordan will present a dynamic performance of Carter G. Woodson, the "Father of Black History," at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 1 at Hawks Nest State Park in Fayette County.

Woodson spent his young adult years in West Virginia as a railroad worker, coal miner, teacher, principal and professor. Jordan delivers a performance explaining what brought Woodson to Fayette County and the New River Gorge. He transitions from Carter Woodson the coal miner to Carter Woodson the Harvard University Ph.D.

The Carter G. Woodson program will be in Hawks Nest Conference Room. The program is free and open to the public. Attendees receive a discount voucher for a Hawks Nest gift shop purchase in February.

Jordan, co-founder and director of the African-American Heritage Family Tree Museum, was the recipient of a Martin Luther King Jr. Living the Dream Award issued by the Martin Luther King Jr. West Virginia Holiday Commission. Jordan recently released a book of poetry, "Sing Me Different."
