Traveler's Check Scam in Ohio Valley Related to New Jersey Scam
Local law enforcement are investigating a traveler's check scam spanning two states.
Wheeling Police responded to two different businesses on Monday in regards to fraudulent travel checks, one at TJ's restaurant and one at CVS pharmacy on National Road, but after some investigating, officers found out those weren't the only places it has occurred. Police say three suspects were involved in the fraud that has also happened in Lindon, New Jersey.
The Ohio County Sheriff's department is also investigating a few incidents, while Wheeling Police are working hand in hand with officers in New Jersey. "The video that was observed by uniformed officers that handled the original call yesterday, matches the description of the subjects in Lindon, New Jersey as well," said Sgt. Gregg McKenzie of the Wheeling Police Department.
Police are still searching for the two men and a woman seen in surveillance footage at both Wheeling businesses. If you have any information that could help in the investigation, call the Lauttamus Crime fighters Tip Line at 1-800-223-0312. All calls remain confidential.
