The Steubenville Police Department and Jefferson County Drug Task Force have partnered up to combat drug use with the use of a prescription drug drop-off box.
Jefferson County ranks third in the state of Ohio for opiate-related deaths, and the short-term goal of the drop-off box is to get residents to dispose of prescription drugs legally. The long-term goal is to put an end to the prescription drug and opiate problem plaguing the county.
Officials say rather than flushing the drugs down the toilet or disposing of them illegally, people should take their old prescription drugs to the drug box at the Steubenville police station.
Once a month, the DEA or Drug Task Force will pick up
the prescription drugs and dispose of them properly.
