MOUNDSVILLE -

A portion of a major road in Marshall County remained closed on Friday while a sinkhole is being repaired.

Officials expect to have work on the Jefferson Avenue Extension completed by February 28, if weather and equipment cooperates. The area is closed from First Street to the entrance to Cherokee Hills and officials say the underground problem will need some extensive repairs.

Crews have blocked off the section of road, and both north and southbound lanes are affected.

The Division of Highways is suggesting using Route 2 as a detour, and residents are advised to allow extra time if you are traveling through that part of Moundsville.
