Marshall County May Add $136 Fee to Test Private Water Wells
MARSHALL COUNTY, W.Va. -
Due to budget cuts, the Marshall County Board of Health is working to approve a fee for testing homeowner's private water wells.
Marshall County Health Department Administrator Ronda Francis said it is a service they provide, and it is now becoming too expensive. She said just the postage alone to send in the water samples is more than $1,000 a year, not to mention time and gas spent to get to the private wells.
"We're not saying that it's a bad thing to do but the health department cannot be expected to provide free services for every request that's made in the county," Francis said.
The fee has been set at $136.00 per test. This proposal will be available for public comment for 30 days.
Public comments on the proposed fee must be done in writing and mailed to or dropped off at the Marshall County Health Department at 513 Sixth Street in Moundsville, starting February 26.
The mailing address is: P.O. Box 429 Moundsville, WV 26041.
