Fixing potholes are among the issues Wheeling Mayor Andy McKenzie plans to tackle in his State of the City address on Tuesday.
Winter has wreaked havoc on area roads, and soon will eat up a large chunk of the city's budget. Budget issues are a theme across the state of West Virginia, and this year's address will be about doing more with less.
The annual address will include a look back and a look forward. McKenzie will list goals, outline the direction the city will take in the next year, and highlight accomplishments made over the past year.
One piece of legislation the mayor opposes would cut local lottery shares and increases the state share of that money. Another bill that city leaders are following closely would allow anyone to bring a loaded gun into a city government building, which McKenzie does not believe is safe.
