WESTON, W.Va. (AP) - A suspect in a cold case involving the disappearance of two Lewis County women has pleaded guilty to a conspiracy charge.

Media outlets report that 58-year-old David Hughes of Archbold, Ohio, entered his plea to conspiracy to commit armed robbery on Tuesday. In exchange for his plea, Hughes agreed to cooperate with prosecutors in the case against co-defendant Joseph Metz of Horner.

Circuit Judge Kurt Hall said he would wait to accept the plea until Hughes' cooperation against any co-defendants is complete.

Metz is charged with two counts of first-degree murder. He is accused of killing his mother, 46-year-old Mary Friend, and his grandmother, 69-year-old Maxine Stalnaker, both of Jane Lew.

The women disappeared in December 1999. Their bodies have never been found.
