A Wetzel County man is behind bars after a simple traffic stop turned out to be much more.
It all started when New Martinsville Police Chief Tim Cecil pulled over a vehicle on Wednesday for expired registration. Cecil said one of the men inside the vehicle was acting suspiciously, and that's when the K-9 unit was called in for a closer look.
The K-9 officer alerted other officers on the scene to Brad Smith. In Smith's pockets, officers reported finding several bags of heroin.
Smith pleaded guilty Wednesday night and remains behind bars in the Northern Regional Jail.
