Mobile Water Lab Arrives to Teach Local Water Plant Employees

Posted: Updated:

After the water crisis in Charleston, residents are even more aware of the water they drink. On Tuesday a mobile water testing lab rolled into Wheeling and gave local water treatment employees training on how to keep their water uncontaminated.

About 7 Water Treatment workers from around the valley are in the middle of a 12-hour instructional course just outside Cabela's on keeping their employees safe as well as the public's drinking water.

Ernest Jack, water specialist and course instructor said this training is important for water treatment safety, and especially to avoid problems like what happened with the contaminated water in Charleston.

"I hope that these operators monitor their raw water source coming in to their plant and if they see a contaminant come in, that they turn it off faster than they did in Charleston," said Jack.

Topics covered Tuesday ranged from testing raw ground and surface water for contaminates to finished water quality. This two day instructional course will finish up Wednesday afternoon.
