An Ohio Valley educator has been named one of the best school guidance counselors in West Virginia.
Madison Elementary School Guidance Counselor Jessica Laslo was recognized this week by the Ohio County Board of Education for recently being named by the West Virginia School Counselor Association as the state's "Elementary School Counselor of the Year."
Laslo was congratulated by the Ohio County School Board at its regular meeting at Middle Creek Elementary School. Laslo said earning the award is a once in a lifetime achievement. "I'm so proud to be a counselor in Ohio County Schools because I get to work with such wonderful students," Laslo said. "I work very hard to do what is right for the children at Madison Elementary School, and it is an honor to be recognized for that. I love my work, and I think that it shows through the caring relationships I share with my students. This is a proud moment, and I'm thankful for this experience."
The School Counselor Association presents four "School Counselor of the Year" awards annually. The awards recognize an elementary, middle/junior high, secondary and multi-level (PreK-12) school counselor for outstanding service and achievement. To be eligible for the award, the nominee must be employed as a full-time school counselor and have completed three consecutive years of counseling service at the level of the nomination.
