The No.1 seeded West Liberty men advanced to the inaugural Mountain East Conference Tournament championship game with a 97-87 victory over Fairmont State in Saturday night's semifinal game, and will play for its fifth consecutive conference championship.
The Hilltoppers were led by junior C.J. Hester with a game-high 25 points, while Mountain East Conference Player of the Year Cedric Harris chipped in with 24 points and eight rebounds. Shawn Dyer scored 15 points, with Devin Hoehn and Keane Cockburn adding 11 each.
The Hilltoppers held a comfortable 50-32 halftime lead, but withstood a furious rally by the Falcons. West Liberty scored 15 of the final 23 points to salt the game away.
Fairmont State was led by Steve Browning with 24 points.
West Liberty (26-2) won the last four West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference titles (2009-13) and will try to claim the inaugural MEC crown when they face the University of Charleston tomorrow at 3:30 p.m.
