    The U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration moved Aug. 21 to list hydrocodone-combination products as Schedule II drugs under the Controlled Substance Act. U.S. Sen. Joe Manchin, D-W.Va., applauded the DEA after the agency officially announced the final rule to reschedule the drugs, which are found in highly addictive painkillers like Vicodin and Lortab, from a Schedule III to a Schedule II controlled substance.

The United Steelworkers of America will present U.S. Sen. Jay Rockefeller, D-W.Va., with a Lifetime Achievement Award in recognition of his "hard work and continued dedication" at a reception set for 3 p.m. Monday, March 17 at the Serbian American Cultural Center, 100 Colliers Way, Weirton.

USW President Leo Gerard and U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown, D-Ohio, will be on hand for the event.

"When steelworkers and the steel industry were facing devastation from unfair trade, Sen. Rockefeller was there for us,"Gerard said. "Now as he leaves public service and hands over the chair of the Senate Steel Caucus to another champion of working people, (the) USW is privileged to stand with him."

Rockefeller is leaving public service when his term ends this year. He's logged nearly three decades in the U.S. Senate along with a two-term stint as governor of West Virginia.
