A sex offender from Utah who moved to Wheeling last year and failed to register is headed to jail.
At a hearing on Tuesday, 38-year-old Jonah Begay was sentenced to serve two-and-a-half years in prison and five years of probation for failing to register as a sex offender.
Begay was arrested in November of last year after authorities found him intoxicated near Bridge Street Middle School. It was then that authorities learned of his history.
Begay was previously convicted in Utah District Court of attempted sexual abuse of a child and as a result, was required to register as a sex offender under both state and federal law, according to the Attorney General's Office.
