Wetzel County Hospital on Thursday announced that it is eliminating eight jobs, reducing the hours for 15 employees and not filling jobs that were recently vacated.
Brian Felici, CEO of the hospital, said, "Hospitals locally and across the country are dealing with a very challenging environment. That being said, Wetzel County Hospital must adjust its operations to become more efficient while maintaining our goal of providing excellent patient care."
In a press release issued Thursday, Felici noted a number of health care trends that are decreasing hospital utilization, including new Medicare payment policies, the Affordable Care Act, and advances in medical science. He stated that those trends have contributed to a slow migration from inpatient to outpatient care, resulting in fewer people being admitted to the hospital for a long period of time.
Felici noted the closing of Ormet had a direct impact on the hospital as well.
