MORGANTOWN, WV -

The West Virginia University Opera Program will present a full production of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's classic "The Magic Flute" during its spring Opera Scenes event at the Creative Arts Center, March 26-29.

Performances in the Antoinette Falbo Theatre will be at 7:30 p.m. March 26-28 and at 3:15 p.m. March 29.

The performance is conducted and staged by Robert Thieme, head of the Opera Program at WVU. Professor Thieme will retire at the end of this semester after directing the Opera Program for 35 years, as well as teaching vocal repertoire and accompanying. Stage director for the production is Rebecca Kreider.

"The Magic Flute" is the last opera Mozart wrote and takes place in two acts. In a fantasy world of sorcery, dungeons and wild animals, a young prince sets out to rescue a beautiful princess, the daughter of the Queen of the Night. He carries a magic flute as a shield, guide and weapon to assist his quest for truth and justice as dark forces seek to destroy him.

The WVU Puppetry and Creative Dramatics area, under the direction of Joann Siegrist, will also take part in the program. The puppets will be built and operated by students in the program, which is part of the School of Theatre and Dance.

For tickets or more information, call the Mountainlair or Creative Arts Center box offices at 304-293-SHOW.
