Although they came up short in their bid for the national title, the West Liberty University Hilltoppers still received a champion's welcome when the players and coaches returned home on Sunday.
The Hilltopper faithful lined National Road in Wheeling from Perkins to Sheetz as the West Liberty bus came back from Evansville, Indiana. Fans dressed in their black and gold held signs and cheered as the Toppers made their way back to campus.
Saturday's Division II NCAA National Championship loss still marks the Hilltoppers' most successful season despite falling to the Central Missouri Mules by a score of 84-77.
West Liberty will lose Cedric Harris and Keene Cockburn to graduation, but returns five double-digit scorers next season.
