West Virginia State University has an entire day dedicated to giving back to the Kanawha Valley.

April 26 marks the university's annual Cares Day, during which students, faculty, staff and alumni will perform volunteer work on a variety of projects, which could include roadside clean up, painting, tree trimming, digging, window washing, literacy education, office work or serving meals.

"Last year we introduced Cares Day to the Kanawha Valley as a way to say thank you for the community's support of West Virginia State University," said WVSU President Brian O. Hemphill. "WVSU is dedicated to teaching, research and science.

"Cares day is one example of our commitment to improving the surrounding community by lending many hands to needed projects in towns and cities across the two-county region."

Cares Day volunteers can still register at wvstateu.edu/caresday and job sites for consideration as part of Cares Day may be submitted at the same website.

All current and former Yellow Jackets are welcome to lend a hand, but registration is required and due April 11. Volunteers will receive free T-shirts, as well as a picnic meal and entertainment on campus at the end of the day.
