    A long-time West Virginia State University associate professor and former Yellow Jacket football coach has been inducted into his high school's sports hall of fame.

The Rev. Bill George has joined the Office of Institutional Advancement at Wheeling Jesuit University. George is the school's new External & Government Relations Officer.

He has more than 25 years' experience in senior management, federal relations and board management. Before to coming to WJU, George was an assistant to the Archdiocese of Washington, D.C. for two years. He was also president at Georgetown Preparatory School in North Bethesda, Md., from 2000 to 2010. 

Before that, he worked as assistant to three presidents at Georgetown University starting in 1975. He also served on WJU's board of directors from 1997 to 2003.

He holds two masters' degrees: one in English from Pennsylvania's University of Scranton and the second in radio/television communications from Temple University in Philadelphia. 

Born in Wilkes-Barre, Pa., George grew up in Saint Mary's County, Md. He entered the Society of Jesus in 1960 and was ordained a priest in 1973.

George joins the Rev. James Fleming, the president of WJU, as part of the Jesuit community in Wheeling, along with the Revs. Brian O'Donnell, Wheeling rector, and James O'Brien, Michael F. Steltenkamp, Donald M. Serva, Luis Tampe, Hadi Sasmita and William C. Rickle.
