Samuel A.Mumley OVAC All-Stars


Area seniors played in one final basketball game on Sunday at the 37th annual Samuel A.Mumley OVAC All-Star Basketball Games at Ohio University Eastern.

The Ohio boys put an exclamation point in the season with a 102-88 victory over West Virginia. Buckeye Local's Brennan Czuchran drained a 3-pointer at the buzzer, giving him 16 points to lead all scorers. Wellsville's Nate Scott made five 3-pointers for 15 points, Steubenville Central's Ryan Fletcher had 11 points, with Martins Ferry's Robert Vargo, an Ohio Dominican football recruit, adding 10 points. West Virginia was led by Linsly's Anthony Wallace with 15 points. Magnolia's Zach Willhoite added 13 points, Madonna's Ross Comis, a UMASS football recruit and Morgantown's Scottie Core, contributed 11 points each, and Wheeling Central's Alonzo Manns scored 10.  Wheeling Central's David Park had seven points, and also won the 3-point shootout at halftime.

The girls game was won by West Virginia 71-63. Weir High's Alyssa Shingle and University's Mariah Callen, a Wheeling Jesuit recruit, led the way with 11 points each. Oak Glen's Vanessa Hissam added 10. Ohio was paced by Hallie Stocker with a game-high 19 points. Union Local's Cori Medley won the 3-point contest at halftime, edging Bridgeport's Maclain Murad by one point 16-15.
