Students, political leaders and law enforcement officials all gathered on the steps of the Marshall County Courthouse on Thursday for a great cause.
The month of April is designated as Child Abuse and Neglect Prevention Month in West Virginia, and crowds were there to show support for abused children across the Mountain State.
Moundsville Mayor Eugene Saunders got things started by reading a proclamation by Governor Earl Ray Tomblin. Shortly afterwards, fifth-grade students from Center Elementary held a balloon launch in honor of abused children all across the country. At least 30 balloons were released into the bright blue afternoon sky.
The courthouse lawn was also decorated with pinwheels that represent a healthy childhood for kids across the nation.
