Wheeling Park Girls Win Dick Dei Classic

The Wheeling Park girls dominated the field events en route to winning the annual Dick Dei Track Classic at Wheeling Park High School.

The meet is named after the late Dick Dei, who was a former coach, teacher and principal at the high school. His widow Patty, and sons Sean and Todd were on hand, helping to run the meet.

The Lady Patriots were led by Cristin Dolan, who won the pole vault and scored 26.5 points. Paige Durkin won the high jump, and Tamara Bumgardner won the 100 hurdles and finished third in the long jump. The Park shuttle hurdle relay team of Bumgardner, Dolan, Lauren Dickerson and Kayley Miller set a new meet record at 1:06.87. The 4x1 team was runner-up and the 4x2 team finished third. Park's Natalie Wiethe was second in the 400 meters.

On the boys side, Dayton Dunbar dominated with 122 points, Canon McMillan was second with 102. Dunbar's Curtis Boyd won the 100 (11.11) and 200 (22.18). Juan Scott win the 110 hurdles (14.85) and 300 hurdles (40.79), and Brian Bell won the 800 and 1600. Dunbar also had the winning 4x2 and 4x8 relay teams.

The host Wheeling Park boys finished sixth. Richard Cummings finished third in the 110 hurdles, Albert Schrimp was third in the 3200 and fourth in the 1600, while Geremy Paige was third in the discuss.
