Wheeling Jesuit Baseball Swept by Concord

The Wheeling Jesuit baseball team was swept aside soundly in a weekend series against the Concord Mountain Lions, dropping the third and fourth games in Sunday's double-header 9-0, and 7-0.

WJU dropped all four games of the series, only managing one run while the Mountain Lions piled in 27, and move into second place in the MEC standings.

In game one of Sunday's double-header, CU jumped out to a 3-0 lead and didn't look back taking the 9-0 win. WJU's Ben Standiford picked up the loss on the mound, allowing four earned runs and taking three K's from facing 25 batters, before being relieved by Josh Kernik.

The WJU batters only managed two hits in the shut out loss from the bats of Patrick Ammar and substitute 2nd basemen Chad Burge. Concord pitcher Chris Kelly pitched a complete game and took six strikeouts.

In game two's 7-0 shutout loss, Cardinal pitcher Ethan Weiss picked up his third loss of the year (5-3 overall) allowing five runs on seven hits before being relieved by Dillon Sunnafrank who pitched an inning before Joe San Fellipo came in to close.

CU Pitcher Zach Kelly threw a three-hitter trough five innings, striking out four Cardinals before being relieved by Tim Leather to close the game out for Concord.

WJU's Tony Connacher led the Cardinals with two base hits.

The Cardinals return to action on Wednesday in a mid-week double header against the visiting Blue Knights from Urbana, who sit in third in the MEC standings. First pitch is scheduled for 1pm.
