President of Wheeling Branch of NAACP Reacts to Lifetime Ban for NBA Owner
On Tuesday, Los Angeles Clippers owner Donald Sterling was banned for life by NBA Commissioner Adam Silver for making racist comments that hurt the league. Below is the reaction from the president of the Wheeling Branch of the NAACP.
Statement from the local Wheeling Branch NAACP - President, Darryl Clausell:
The local Wheeling Branch NAACP follows the National NAACP platform, quoting, “being pleased to see the NBA taking swift and strong action against Los Angeles Clippers owner Donald Sterling for his racist and offensive remarks with appropriate actions.”
In my personal life, I have experienced Cliven Bundy and Donald Sterling remarks from childhood to manhood, presently and in the past, subtly and openly. There is nothing new under the sun; it is what it is.
As quoted,”I remain vigilant in the fight to address racism in all forms and am committed to making a difference in society, whether local or other, so that it is socially, economically and politically opportune. Hearing people referred to as masses and classes, the concept of human dignity has been lost - that every human being of every age, race, sex, religion, gender preference and culture of origin must be recognized as conscious. The value of our spirit, mind, consciousness and amazing gifts that come with each of us, along with innovation, talent, ideas, perspective and a voice to be heard is essential for human dignity (MA)." The repercussions are by choice.
