A management contract to operate Canaan Valley Resort State Park near Davis in Tucker County has been awarded to U.S. Hotel and Resort Management, Inc., according to Paul Redford, district administrator with the West Virginia State Park system. The current management contractor, Guest Services, Inc., (GSI) will continue contact obligations through June 30.

"Both U.S. Hotel and Resort Management, Inc., and GSI are professional hospitality and property management companies and they are working together to ensure that visitors to the park continue to receive excellent hospitality during this transition period," Redford said.

U.S. Hotel and Resort Management, Inc. will assume Canaan Valley Resort State Park management July 1. This is a five-year management contract that was awarded following a bidding process conducted under the guidelines of the West Virginia Purchasing Division. The contract also includes operation of the restaurant and food services at nearby Blackwater Falls State Park.

U.S. Hotel and Resort Management, Inc., is a wholly-owned subsidiary of The Ramkota Companies, Inc., and is the general partner of limited partnerships that own hotels or have concession and management agreements involving lodging, food and beverage, and related resort activities.

The company operates state parks in Ohio and South Dakota and numerous other restaurants, hotels and resort and destination facilities.

Canaan Valley Resort features 160 lodge rooms, 23 cabins, an 18-hole championship golf course and clubhouse, 25,000 square feet of conference space and a dining room, lounge and café. Winter sports include a tube run, downhill skiing with 43 trails and ice skating. Other facilities include a sporting clay range, indoor and outdoor pools, mini-golf, and a 34-site campground.
