UPDATE: $357,000 Raised for Ohio Valley Non-Profits During the "Amazing Raise"
"The Amazing Raise," a 24-hour challenge to raise funds for the nonprofits of the Ohio Valley, raised a total of $357,063.
The one-day event on Tuesday included 24 hours of fund-raising with 92 organizations to choose from, ranging from the Underground Railroad Museum to Harmony House. Donations could also help restore Mount Wood Cemetery or build a statue of Francis Pierpont.
The Community Foundation of the Ohio Valley gives $5,000 to the winning organization, $2,500 to the runner-up, and more.
"We were absolutely blown away by the generosity of the people of the Upper Ohio Valley," said Susie Nelson, Executive Director of The Community Foundation. “We were expecting a great response, but this is absolutely astonishing.”
The public was able to view the leader board throughout the day at the GiveOV.org website. Special prizes were also awarded throughout the day, with the prize of $5,000 for the most money raised going to the Augusta Levy Learning Center.
