Thursday night, more than 150 people showed up to Wheeling's Centre Market for the first-ever Taste of the Market.
The event raised money for West Virginia Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA).
For $25, guests could fill up their plates with some of the best cuisine from restaurants like The Market Vines, The Soup Shack, Coleman's Fish Market, Michael's Beefhouse, Valley Cheese, Centre Cup Coffee, Centre Market Bakery and Oliver's Pies.
Plenty of dishes including roast beef, cajun chicken pasta, lobster bisque, specialty breads, spinach salad and a variety of desserts were available.
"I'm doing an award-winning lobster bisque, and award-winning wedding soup and then I'm doing a cheesy broccoli that's really good. I'm also doing a cajun chicken pasta," said Frank Warren, owner of The Soup Shack.
In addition to the fantastic food, plenty of silent auction items were up for bidding. Guests could also by 50/50 raffle tickets.
All of the proceeds for the event went to CASA, which benefits children in Ohio, Marshall, Wetzel and Tyler Counties. The organization has been able to help out 400 children locally since they opened their doors in 2001.
They typically specialize in abuse and neglect cases, and train volunteers to be able to work with the children.
Lisa Hawrot, former President and current Secretary/Treasurer of CASA said that judges often rely on the recommendations made by the volunteers in the program. She adds they always look out for the best interest of the children, and recently, they've accepted a grant to be able to assist young adults aged 14-21 with necessary life skills.
For business owners like Frank, it's a small sacrifice for a big cause. "Even though I'm a small guy, I like to do it because word gets out, you know. It's a small town and when you do good things, it seems to help out, and it makes you feel good," he said.
The event was sponsored by the Wheeling Rotary Club, American Electric Power, Ohio Valley Medical Center and East Ohio Regional Hospital, Steptoe and Johnson, Carol and Walter Austin, D.W. Cummings, Pastor of Bethlehem Temple and Shiloh Apostolic Faith Assembly. It was also put on in Memory of Joan Kepner and additionally sponsored by Dolph Santorine and Erikka Storch.
