Linsly football standout Austin Whipkey has accepted an invitation to walk-on the Marshall University football team.
Whipkey, a 325 two-way lineman had offers from West Liberty and Walsh, but has decided to vie for a sport on the Herd's offensive line.
Whipkey was a three-year starter, and two-year captain. He was one of two sophomore starters on the Cadets' 2011 undefeated team.
As a senior, Whipkey record 44 tackles, one sack, and recovered a fumble, from his defensive tackle position. He finished his career with 120 tackles, four sacks, and 12 tackles for loss. Offensively, Whipkey helped pave the way for the Cadets power running game in 2013 led by junior workhorse Chimechi Oparanozie.
Whipkey is the son of Mike and Amy Neil of Wheeling. He plans to major in education and is the first Cadet to join a Division I FBS program since Dan Stephens in 2000, who went on the play at the University of Pittsburgh.
