Calgary shows what's #underthehat during a four-day promotional campaign to entice Torontonians to come for a visit.
TORONTO, May 15, 2014 /CNW/ - Tourism Calgary and their partners Calgary Stampede, Travel Alberta, Banff Lake Louise Tourism, Alberta Culinary Tourism Alliance and Heritage Park Historical Village officially arrive in Toronto today with a calling card that just might be the world's largest inflatable white cowboy hat to ever float in water. The Calgary and area team have made this special trip to Toronto to host a welcoming #underthehat adventure at the Harbourfront Centre on May 17 and 18.
"We'd love for Toronto to come discover all that Calgary has to offer," says Jeff Hessel, Tourism Calgary Vice President of Marketing. "If you think you know Calgary, get ready to be surprised. We are a cosmopolitan basecamp to adventure with some of the country's best dining and entertainment, newest attractions, biggest events and quick access to four UNESCO World Heritage Sites with some of the most breathtaking geography in the world. We're here to invite Torontonians to visit us and see for themselves this summer."
To promote the distinctive experiences Calgary and Alberta have to offer, Tourism Calgary is hosting a two-day event that includes the opportunity to climb the Alberta Rockies on a 50' rock wall and be immersed in the Alberta landscape via a 360' virtual video. Showcasing what is #underthehat, event attendees will enjoy Calgary's unique brand of entertainment featuring music from Cowtown Opera Co., and hoop dancing from Dallas Arcand Jr. Torontonians can meet the Calgary Stampede Royalty and have their taste buds tantalized with contemporary twists on classic midway fare prepared by Calgary's top chefs Karine Moulin and Pierre Lamielle.
"Calgary and Alberta are climbing international must-see travel lists including the New York Times and The Guardian," says Hessel. "This weekend, Torontonians have the rare opportunity to find out why in their own backyard with a weekend of fun and engaging entertainment and activities designed to surprise and delight."
