The Washington Wild Things, started off their 2014 home season with a bang at CONSOL Energy Park as they defeated the visiting Frontier Greys 10-1 in their home opener on Tuesday night. The offense erupted producing 15 hits and 10 runs in their fourth game of the season. With two outs in the bottom of the first, the middle of Washington’s lineup gave the home team a 3-0 advantage as corner infielders Carter Bell and William Beckwith each collected RBI hits.
Washington continued to add to their lead in the bottom half of the next inning when outfielder Stewart Ijames drilled an RBI single bringing home Ryan Kresky and outfielder Danny Poma putting Washington ahead 5-0.
The Wild Things offense continued producing runs as Poma and Kresky hit back-to-back doubles for a 7-0 lead and they tacked on three more scores in the fifth en route to their first victory of the season.
Former Frontier League pitcher of the year Scott Dunn earned the win for Washington, fanning four in six shutout innings. Frontier Greys pitcher Lamarre Rey took the loss for the visitors in his 2014 debut.
The Wild Things play the second game of the series Wednesday, first pitch is 7:05 p.m..
